It provides an engaging and safe place that enhances dignity, uniqueness, and independence for adults aging with challenges and provides balance for the life of the caregiver. The Adult Protective Services program was established to receive and investigate reports regarding adults within the state of Indiana who may be endangered and, as appropriate, to coordinate a proper response to protect endangered adults who are victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

APS field investigators operate out of the offices of county prosecutors throughout the state. If the APS unit has reason to believe that an individual who is 18 years or older is an endangered adult, the unit shall investigate the complaint or cause the complaint to be investigated by law enforcement or other agency and make a determination as to whether the individual reported is an endangered adult.

As a member of INconnect Alliance, a statewide network of Indiana’s 16 Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC), we are a one-stop resource center for information about programs and services available to older adults, people with disabilities, or their caregivers. With access to a comprehensive network of resources, the Options Counselors in our ADRC can connect those seeking information and assistance to Thrive Alliance services or to other community resource options.

The Bosma Center for Visionary Solutions is Indiana's largest and most comprehensive provider of rehabilitation and training for people who are blind or visually impaired. From high school students to senior citizens, our customized programs help put you on your path to independence. We understand vision loss can be frightening. A sense of hopelessness can creep in. But, we can help. Our training and rehabilitation teaches you the skills you need and adjustment counseling to get you back to enjoying life. You are able to do anything you want, you may just have to do it differently.

Provides food for homebound residents each month.
It's important that the individual has a working phone, as Salvation Army will call before making the delivery. Individual will need to answer the call to ensure the delivery can take place.

BVIS provides services to eligible Hoosiers that are blind or visually impaired.

BDS provides person-centered programs that support individuals of all ages with disabilities to live their best lives through community and residential support. The bureau's services emphasize self-determination, individual choice, and community inclusion.

As one of DDARS’s four bureaus, we support Hoosiers through BDS waiver programs and serve individuals residing in group homes across Indiana. We utilize tools and system enhancements that emphasize self-determination and choice for individuals with disabilities.

Pairs caregivers with a coach, and they work together to address caregiver needs and offer support. Caregiver coaches understand how tough it is caring for a loved one, so coaches work to help unpaid caregivers with the unique challenges and responsibilities they face. Caregiver coaching aims to help caregivers strengthen their caregiving skills, feel more confident as caregivers, and improve the caregiver’s overall well-being. Caregiver coaches are trained professionals who talk with caregivers to make plans and goals. They help with things like figuring out what the caregiver needs, addressing those needs, managing stress, and helping caregivers accomplish tasks. The goal of caregiver coaching is to help the caregiver feel better at taking care of their loved one, while also taking care of themselves. This service helps caregivers: Identify needs and support systems, access valuable information and resources, create an in case of emergency plan, and feel genuinely supported.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services provides assistance to identify and find resources to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families, throughout the state of Indiana.

Indiana’s First Steps system is a family-centered, locally based, coordinated system that provides early intervention services to infants and young children who may have developmental delays or who have a diagnosed mental or physical condition that has a high probability of resulting in developmental delays.

First Steps brings together families and professionals from education, health, and social service agencies. By coordinating locally available services, First Steps is working to give Indiana’s children and their families the widest possible array of early intervention services.

Licensed nurses and social workers help you navigate scheduling and managing health appointments; transportation to appointments; community resources; medications and side effects; apply for benefits; caregiver support; and health and wellness education.

The Indiana Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a state and federally-funded program under the auspices of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. We serve long-term care residents by providing resident rights education, visiting facilities, investigating complaints, and advocating for policy changes.

The FSSA Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning efficiently and effectively administers Medicaid programs for the state of Indiana. Medicaid is more than just health coverage—it provides a vital safety net to one in five Hoosiers.

Indiana Health Coverage Programs include traditional Medicaid, Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Hoosier Healthwise, Medicare Savings Program, and many other programs tailored to the needs of specific populations. 

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Some people get Medicare automatically, others have to actively sign up -- it depends if you start getting retirement or disability benefits from Social Security before you turn 65.

"Extra Help" is a Medicare program to help people with limited income and resources pay Medicare drug coverage (Part D) premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and other costs. Some people qualify for Extra Help automatically, and other people have to apply.

NEMT services are provided to Indiana Fee For Service Medicaid members who require transportation assistance to Medicaid-billable healthcare appointments and have no other means of transportation. Verida arranges transportation for all Indiana Fee For Service Medicaid members residing in Indiana. To schedule, change, or cancel transportation use the number provided below.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping people with varying levels of disability, with little income, few financial resources, or no health insurance or whose insurance has been denied, gain greater independence by offering the loan of durable medical equipment and obtaining the medical supplies they need. We also locate and refer residents to appropriate agencies for additional specialized medical equipment and services.

REACH provides experiences and activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our day program helps our participants build relationships, learn employment & life skills, do fun activities, get involved in the community, and learn healthy habits in fun ways.

REACH also supports families who need PAC hours (Participant Assistance Care). We operate our PAC services with a “friends and family” attitude. Families identify who their PAC support person is and REACH will train, pay, and monitor goal progress.

REACHability provides hands-on training for employment and/or volunteer opportunities for adults with disabilities. We offer an individualized approach to pre-employment training in both group and individual settings.

A program designed to construct ramps for residents of Bartholomew County who have mobility impairments and require assistance devices to enter and exit their homes.

Connects individuals with barriers to jobs – at Goodwill and with many other companies as well. Services are geared toward individuals with disabilities, individuals who lack a high school diploma, individuals with a criminal background and job-seekers age 55+.

The Salvation Army extends a food pantry service, offering essential nutrition and other necessary items to families. During a typical visit, recipients receive a three-to-five-day supply of nutritionally balanced groceries.

The Senior Nutrition program provides nutrition for both the physical body and the entire person. We provide a comprehensive meal service that increases the well-being of participants by serving meals that contain nutrition and aging adult needs to sustain health and wellness.

Our meal sites also provide educational topics and activities that promote the physical, economic, mental, social, and physiological well-being of the participants. Each month there is a different health and nutrition topic that is covered, which correlates to the health and well-being of older adults. We also provide opportunities for socialization through a variety of activities. While the exact schedule varies at each site, there are activities such as games, bingo, conversation and health checks.

Stone Belt is a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support for individuals with disabilities. Established in 1958, it is the oldest and largest agency of its kind in south-central Indiana.

We believe in the uniqueness, worth, and right to self-determination of every individual. Therefore, it is our mission, in partnership with the community, to prepare, empower, and support people with developmental disabilities and their families to participate fully in the life of the community.

The Arc of Bartholomew County is a 501(C)-3 Nonprofit Organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

- Prevent disabilities through education about the dangers of drugs and alcohol while pregnant and advocating for all women to have quality prenatal care.
- Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for families and their loved ones.

Vocational Rehabilitation helps individuals with disabilities achieve employment. Vocational Rehabilitation services are offered locally in 25 Area Offices throughout Indiana and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors provide services in each county. Eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation is not based on income or financial resources.
