Description

Brighter Days is a homeless shelter for men and women experiencing temporary homelessness. This shelter is provided by the Columbus Township Trustee and operated by Love Chapel.

Hours

Check in between 6pm-9pm daily. Exit by 8am (but come back if you need to!)

Eligibility

-Bartholomew County men and women, age 18+, who are homeless
-Must not be on sex offender registry
-No pets (but Animal Care can house your pet for a few days)
-60 day maximum stay (extensions possible)

Bring an ID if you have one. Any proof of residence works though—this can be a utility bill, rent receipt, prescription bottle, school correspondence, or even a postmarked, self-addressed envelope.

Energy Assistance (EAP) Matching Program

Description

EAP matching program is based on what you pay during the months of moratorium (December-March). During the moratorium, Love Chapel will match your electric and gas payments each month up to 50% with the maximum monthly match of $100 as long as you show documentation of payment to the utility company. These matching funds are only available during the moratorium months (December-March).

1. Provide proof you applied for EAP through Human Services, Inc. and whether you were approved or denied for the program.
2. Provide proof you made monthly utility payments during the moratorium (December-March).
3. Only payments made from your own funds are eligible; payments made from other resources (family members, trustees, Salvation Army, etc.) are not eligible. Credit card payments are also not eligible; Love Chapel does not support incurring debt.
4. You do not need to be on disconnect to request matching funds. The last date to request Matching Funds is March 31st.

Financial Assistance

Description

Assistance funds provided by Love Chapel cover various needs including rent, rent deposits, utilities, utility deposits, and other essential items based on individual circumstances. Clients must seek assistance from their township trustee first. The amount of assistance granted may vary depending on specific need and circumstances. All assistance checks are directly mailed to the vendor or landlord. Additionally, cooperation and coordination with other relevant organizations are often pursued to address the assistance request comprehensively.

Food Pantry

Description

The Food Pantry is one of the main facets which Love Chapel uses to ensure that the people of the community are provided with basic necessities.

Mon-Sat 9am-11:45am
First Monday of each month 3pm-6pm (2nd Monday in September)

Eligibility

Bartholomew County residents may visit one time per month and may return every 7 days for produce/bread.

Each client who visits the main food pantry will be issued a Love Chapel Food Pantry card, which must be presented at every visit to the pantry.
